A Death Doula, also known as an End-of-Life Doula, Soul Doula, Doula Walker, Serious Illness Companion, Death Midwife, and other names, is a trained professional who provides non-medical, holistic support to individuals facing serious or life-threatening illness and to those who love them. I often describe my role simply as a friend ’til the end.
Death doulas offer spiritual, physical, psychosocial, practical, and emotional support to individuals and their families before, during, and after death. Our role is deeply personal and heart-centered.
Although the term “death doula” is relatively new, this work is ancient. For centuries, across cultures and continents, community members, elders, and women have sat with the dying, cared for the body after death, and supported families through grief and transition. They helped guide rituals, held space for the sacred passage between life and death, and ensured that no one in the community faced death alone, in fear, or without meaning.
At Sacred Moments, we carry this tradition forward by walking alongside individuals, families, and care partners during one of life’s most profound transitions.
You do not have to walk this path alone.
We are here to walk beside you.
